// overview

Prayer Lock is a focused Muslim productivity companion that combines accurate prayer times, a Quran reader, and a smart app blocker that activates during Salah — so the moments meant for worship aren't quietly lost to a notification feed.

// the_problem

What was missing.

Most Muslim apps stop at reminders. The actual problem isn't knowing when prayer time arrives — it's the pull of every other app on the phone the moment the Adhan plays. There was no single tool that respected the Salah window the way the user wanted to: fully, automatically, without willpower.

// the_solution

The approach.

A single app that owns the entire prayer experience end-to-end. When Adhan sounds, Prayer Lock automatically blocks distracting apps for the duration of that prayer window, surfaces Qibla and Quran in one tap, and gets out of the way the rest of the day. No guilt loops, no streak shaming — just a calmer phone for fifteen minutes, five times a day.

// process

How it came together.

01

Mapping the prayer window

Started by talking to practising Muslims about how they actually use their phones around Salah time. The recurring theme: the gap between hearing the Adhan and physically getting up to pray is where focus collapses. That window — usually 5 to 15 minutes — became the core unit of the app.

02

Designing the lock screen

Built a single calm screen that shows the current prayer, time remaining, and a one-tap entry into Quran or Qibla. Everything else is deliberately hidden until the window closes.

Cross-platform with Flutter

Shipped iOS and Android from one codebase to keep iteration fast. Native blocking APIs (Screen Time on iOS, Device Admin on Android) are wrapped behind a single Flutter service so feature work stays unified.

// outcome

Currently in build with a closed beta opening soon. Early testers report that the auto-block during Salah is the feature they didn't know they needed — the small forced pause is what turns a reminder app into something they actually keep installed.
